Troubleshooting

Common Issues

  1. Authentication problems: Ensure your Kaggle API credentials are properly set up in ~/.kaggle/kaggle.json

  2. Claude Desktop can’t find kaggle-mcp: Make sure the command was installed in a location that’s in your PATH. The setup helper should use the full path, but you can also manually specify the full path in your Claude configuration.

  3. Permission errors: On Unix-like systems, ensure your credential file has the right permissions:
    chmod 600 ~/.kaggle/kaggle.json

  4. Path issues: If you encounter download path problems, explicitly set the path with:
    config_path("/your/preferred/path")
